Major Arcana
Explore the 22 cards that frame broad questions about change, direction, and personal response.
A framework for larger themes
The Major Arcana is the group of 22 cards in a standard Tarot deck, commonly numbered from the Fool through the World. Readers often use them to reflect on broad experiences such as beginning, choosing, learning, and letting go. The order and numbering vary between traditions. A Major Arcana card is not evidence that a supernatural force is directing an event, and it does not automatically outweigh the practical details in a reading.
Read the image in its position
Begin with the question and the role assigned to the card. The same image can raise different questions in a position about a challenge and a position about support. Describe what you see before attaching a label. Compare at least two possible interpretations so a familiar keyword does not become a conclusion you never examine.
Begin with three distinct themes
Our starting entries cover the Fool, the Magician, and the High Priestess. Together they offer questions about starting, using available resources, and taking time to listen. Read each entry as a set of prompts rather than a prediction. Keep notes about which interpretation helps you understand your actual circumstances.
Keep scale in perspective
A striking card can make an ordinary problem feel enormous. Before acting, identify one practical issue and one step within your control. A card cannot establish a diagnosis, determine another person’s private intentions, or guarantee an outcome. Use qualified advice and factual information for consequential decisions.
